Abena O. Asante, Esq is the founding partner of Asante Law Group, an international-focused law firm that provides services in immigration, corporate, entertainment, and fashion law. Mrs. Asante obtained her bachelor’s degree from New York University, graduating with honors in Sociology and Journalism, and went on to complete her law degree at Union University, Albany Law School, with an International Law distinction. Prior to law school, she worked at Sony-BMG (formerly Bertelsmann Group, BMG International) as part of the international corporate communications team. She also worked in several fashion companies, including Vogue, to solidify her knowledge of the fashion industry.

As a law student, her interests expanded to comparative international law, with an emphasis on human rights and international business transactions. She was the recipient of a human rights fellowship for drafting legislative proposals for women’s rights in West Africa. During this time, Mrs. Asante complemented her journalism and legal backgrounds by publishing articles on economic and legal markets in Europe and the Middle East. Her diverse background has afforded her an intricate understanding of immigration law from a business and cultural standpoint. Her legal practice focuses on advising businesses worldwide on immigration and corporate matters. She practices in the area of corporate immigration, focusing on intra-company transfers, investors, business visitors, family based petition and asylum cases. Her client affiliations include individuals and companies in the entertainment and fashion industries.

Mrs. Asante has also served as counsel on high profile immigration and entertainment cases. She has worked in conjunction with Congress to advocate on behalf of her clients, exposing injustices within the immigration laws. Her cases have been publicized in various news agencies including the Associated Press, BBC and Univision. She has been featured as an immigration law expert on the Discovery Channel, and has also consulted television personalities on licensing agreements involving the fashion industry.

Mrs. Asante is an adventurer and avid traveler with a love for fashion design and a passion for international human rights. She has spent time in Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Ghana, Morocco, Egypt, Italy, and England, while researching international legal protection of indigenous textile designs and goods. She has studied abroad, lived abroad, worked abroad, and has represented clients in Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa. Why does this matter? Because she connects and wants to connect. Mrs. Asante is licensed to practice in the State of New York, in the Eastern District of New York (Federal) and Southern District of New York (Federal). She is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
